Lucas Charles Brite first arrived at the base of Capote Peak on October 12, 1885. Mr. Brite?s own account states, ?Before me was a new and untried country- an experiment. I wondered what the future held in store for me. I fully realized whether successful or unsuccessful that I would necessarily have to endure many hardships.?
He was born in 1860 in Caldwell County. When Luke Brite was 3 years old, his father died. As a young boy he learned to ride the ranges of Tom Green and Frio Counties. At the age of 25 young Luke began trailing a main herd of common cattle belonging to a half-dozen friends; Brite?s herd was a part of it. The hardships and trials of 7 months of trailing over 600 miles from Frio County to the Texas Highlands had left its impress- both cattle and horses were thin in flesh, languid, and leg weary, and doubtless like the man, overjoyed when they reached the ?End of the Trail.? at the base of Capote Mountain. Nature severely tested the mettle of young Luke Brite. All who settled that area quickly learned that it was unrelenting- a harsh land for tough men. The first year, that part of Texas was drought ?stricken, and Brite lost one-fourth of his herd. But he was no quitter; he accepted hardships and trials as part of the
game. He studied the land, its grasses, water sources, the weather, the carrying capacity and the effects of overgrazing. Luke Brite lived his life on faith in God, Hereford cattle and grama grass

The historic QB Ranch offers almost 20,000 acres of prime wildlife habitat. Located in King County, three hours northwest of Ft. Worth, Texas. The ranch terrain is made up of rugged canyons with cedar and shin oak covered ridges. Rolling hills lead to steep slopes, some bordered by creeks that feed our large lakes and many ponds and flow through several thousand acres of mesquite flats filled with trophy whitetail. Our lakes and ponds not only provide a great stopover for waterfowl along the central flyway but also have been stocked with Florida-strain black bass and crappie. Creeks, canyons, steep slopes, rolling hills, and mesa tops – all of this, added to the abundant wildlife and sporting activities, make this place truly special.
Elk On The QB RanchMost of the ranch is made up of what was formally a part of the historic Four Sixes Ranch. It was named QB for what was known as the Quail and Buck pasture as wild game was abundant on this part of the famous ranch. The QB with its incredible terrain and abundant game was much better suited for a hunting ranch than a cattle operation. Hunting had not been allowed on the property for other than family and a few close friends such as President “Teddy” Roosevelt who was allowed to hunt coyote and wolves in 1905.
Whitetail On The QB RanchAfter the purchase of the QB the ranch was put into an extensive wildlife management program. We now have over four hundred game feeders that are stocked year round. Approximately 4,000 acres were put under high fence and stocked with the highest quality game and exotics including a large herd of elk with many great 6×6 or better bulls. A resident herd of buffalo and Watusi cattle roam freely over most of the ranch. The whitetail population is plentiful and virtually untouched making the QB one of the best whitetail hunting ranches in the state of Texas. The natural genetics on the ranch are tremendous, as this area of Texas continues to produce some of the state’s largest whitetail taken each year.
Elk Swimming On The QB RanchThe food sources, nutrition, habitat and genetics have all been improved, making the QB Ranch in King County, Texas, a ranch that will consistently offer each and every year a legitimate chance at taking a trophy animal as well as providing a great setting for an enjoyable outdoor adventure. The QB Ranch will continue to prepare and put forth all the necessary hard work and effort that it takes to provide you with the opportunity of a lifetime to take your trophy animal, have an exciting hunt, and provide an enjoyable stay with great food and even better hospitality.

Everyone concentrates on the alligator gars, but don’t forget all the other species that provide awesome shooting fun. I am set up to handle the beginner bow fisherman to the experienced. Bowfishing with me provides a fun and affordable adventure that you will never forget.
I have been duck hunting the Port O’Connor area for over ten years. The Texas coast is blessed with one of the largest winter concentration of ducks in the United States. Red Head, Pintail, are the most prolific but Widgeon, Gadwall, Teal and many other ducks are common. I prefer to hunt sitting in the grass marshes but I do have several blinds to hunt from if needed. I am continuously scouting for the best places to hunt. I specialize in small parties and personal hunts. Youth hunts and family hunts are welcomed. I can also handle cooperate hunts with multiple boats. Come hunt and fish with me for your next Adventure.
