Having been a professional wildlife management consultant for more than 30 years, we finally decided to practice what we had been preaching. In 2003 we high fenced about 800 acres of our Saint Jo ranch and designed a state of the art A.I. facility and breeding pens. Initially we bought does from many of the top breeders in Texas and inseminated them with semen from superior bucks with proven ?pass-down? genetics. Our primary selection criterion has been trophy quality antlers at an early age (minimum 220? by age 3); many have exceeded this by age 2. Our final product then is a trophy buck that can be released at age 3, and make a significant genetic contribution to pasture deer herds in Texas.
We only use top genetics in the country and have developed a reputation for quality deer at a reasonable price!
At Trophy Ridge Whitetails, we maintain a herd of about 80 breeding does as the heart of our farm. Our does are very calm (many we have bottle-raised) and are acustomed to our handling facilities. Everything we do is designed to minimize stress in their environment and our reproductive conception rates are indicative of a successful approach. We maintain lines of does that are pure Texas, ? northern and ? northern genetics. The original does came from many of the pioneer TDA deer breeders and we have been out-crossing for specific antler and reproductive characteristics we value ever since. We focus on big framed antlers that look like magnificent trophies to hunters, but equally important for our business, they must reach trophy status at an early age.
We have produced several very promising yearling bucks from 160″ to 200″and many two year olds over 200″. Most of our bucks are released for our hunting operation or sold as stockers to other ranchers and that has been our business plan from the start. We do offer open and A.I. bred does for sale each year to maintain our doe herd size about constant, so give us a call if you are interested. We also sell some A.I. produced fawns each year for breeders that do not have deer working facilities. Call or come by for a visit to Trophy Ridge Whitetails… We?ve always got some coffee, tea or a beer for deer folks!
