Mesquite Country Outfitters offers fully guided hunts for wild Bobwhite quail, whitetail deer, mule deer, turkey, dove, wild hogs, and varmints on the 165,000 acre Pitchfork Ranch in Dickens and King counties of the Rolling Plains of Texas. The Pitchfork Ranch is a working cattle ranch with terrain including mesquite pastures, scrub oak thickets, rugged canyon and cedar country, and a few crop fields and food plots. Lodging and meals are provided on location for most hunts. The ranch holds good numbers of mature whitetail bucks and a few mule deer. The quail, turkey, and dove populations in this area are outstanding. Wild hogs and varmints are abundant on the 257 square miles of hunting territory. All game animals are 100% wild. No high fences or pen-raised critters here!!
This region is known for its outstanding wild quail hunting. The ranch has the right combination of weed growth, insects, cover, and range management necessary for wild quail to thrive. We have at least 120,000 acres of excellent quail hunting territory and there are quail on all 165,000 acres of the ranch. Please visit our Texas Quail page for more information. Click here for available quail hunting dates in 2014-2015. Are you a single quail hunter looking for hunting partners? If so please visit our single hunter page for contact information.
Only recently has our area gained notoriety for its trophy whitetail hunting. Better areas of the ranch average approximately 8 deer per square mile. This relatively small number assures that our deer herd is healthy and that there is no competition for quality whitetail forage. Our deer are generally larger in body size than those found in most other parts of Texas. The absence of hunting pressure along with sound management practices have allowed our deer herd to maintain a near one-to-one buck to doe ratio. We do require that all bucks gross at least 130 B&C points. Typically our trophy whitetail bucks average around 148-150 B&C gross points in good habitat years. Please visit our Texas Whitetail page for more information.
The Pitchfork Ranch holds several different flocks of Rio Grande wild turkeys. Our love sick gobblers respond readily to the calls of an interested hen. The ranch offers excellent fall and spring turkey hunting. Bowhunters and shotgunners will love the up close action. Hunter success rates average well over 1.5 birds per hunter. Please visit our Texas Turkey page for more information.
There are a few mule deer in the rugged canyon and river country on the southwestern quarter of the ranch. These deer are difficult to hunt but sport racks well worth the effort. As with our other game animals, our mule deer herd has experienced no hunting pressure. Please visit our Texas Mule Deer page for more information.
September normally offers excellent mourning dove hunting as the migrating swarms feed on wild sunflowers and other seeds. We also have a good population of doves that call the ranch home year round. Please visit our Texas Dove page for more information.
The ranch holds literally thousands of wild hogs and varmints over all 165,000 acres. The wild boar hunter will see plenty of action at food plots, water holes, and brush thickets. Some of our hogs have strong genetic ties to the Russian boar. Coyotes and other predators cover the ranch. The lack of hunting pressure has made these animals very approachable (sometimes too close for comfort). Please visit our Texas Wild Boar and Texas Varmints pages for more information.
The Pitchfork Ranch and Mesquite Country Outfitters are in the process of implementing a game management program on the property. This program includes year round supplemental feeding as well as habitat improvement. The 1998-99 season was the first season that hunting had been formally offered over the entire ranch. The wildlife has had virtually no hunting pressure for many years. All hunts are fair chase and absolutely no high fencing is used. We strictly monitor our wildlife population. Hunting is reduced during drought years.
We are proud of the Pitchfork Ranch and its heritage. We are proud of this area. You will be greeted with enthusiasm and treated with courtesy. We give all hunters a brief tour of the historic ranch and its headquarters. Bring your camera! We are now booking hunts for all game animals for the 2014-15 season. If you are after a trophy buck, excellent wild quail hunting, lots of Rio Grande gobblers, wild hogs or varmints then call today to book your adventure. Please visit The Pitchfork Ranch web site to learn more about the 131 year history of the ranch. Hunters should expect a great western outdoors experience.

The Pan Dulce Ranch is a unique hunting ranch in many ways.
The property itself is cared for and maintained with an attitude of impassioned stewardship, without losing sight of its function.
Acquired in September 2001, by Bob and Helen Voss of New Braunfels, Texas, Pan Dulce was originally part of the Atlee Ranch, a large, working Heritage Ranch in Texas’ Golden Triangle, just north of Encinal.
The ranch is clearly a labor of love for Bob and Helen, and also their immediate family which includes sons Mike and Matt, daughter Karen, their spouses, and their grandchildren Dylan, Ty, and Justin. A number of close friends have also developed an affinity for the ranch, and pitch in to help as needed.
A project of continuing improvement, the Voss family has thus far enhanced the ranch by adding two large, well-stocked tanks. It’s possible to catch bass and catfish that are on par with what you would hope to catch at any destination lake or river.
Additionally, two smaller stocked tanks, many ponds, and troughs have been added, all pipe-fed by fresh water wells.
Pan Dulce Hunting Ranch Fire Pot, Encinal TXIn 2002, fifteen bred does were purchased to improve the property’s existing South Texas Whitetail herd. The following year, two breeder bucks were added to further accent the quality of future offspring. Selective harvesting and protein feeding have bolstered the herd, producing highly desirable bucks. Scattered throughout the ranch are well-maintained food plots which provide the extra nutrition the ranch stock needs to grow healthy and multiply.
Not to be overlooked in the sphere of offerings are hog and dove hunts. At any given time, the entire range of hog maturity levels roam the ranch, which include impressive and sizeable adults. Seasonal bird flocks frequent Pan Dulce, including white wing and mourning doves.
Pan Dulce Ranch staff will do the skinning and gutting, if desired. In addition, there is onsite cold storage for safe holding until it’s time for your journey home.
Though the focus of your stay is on the hunt, there is no mistaking the atmosphere of comradery, family, and sense of fraternity that rubs off on all who visit Pan Dulce Ranch.
In Bob and Helen’s own words…
The moment you drive through our gates and into the ranch, your worries and cares will ‘skeedaddle on outta here’ as you realize that you’ve escaped from your daily grind and begun your Texas outdoor adventure.
Rather than being greeted by hired hands, you become the guests of our family and closest friends. Great pains are taken to ensure that your visit here is altogether memorable and pleasant, rewarding and relaxing. We aim to exceed your expectations.
The ranch compound itself, although rustic, is at the same time accommodating, comfortable, and inviting. Additionally, you’ll come across blooming cactus, yuccas, rabbits, raccoons, lizards, songbirds, and a variety of other native plants and critters while on your hunt.
Our bunkhouse sleeps ten, however there’s plenty of room for sleeping bags or inflatable mattresses, and we’ll do our darned best to make provisions for extra members of your party, within reasonable limitations (additional charges may apply.) There’s also a jacuzzi bath available. So bed down for the night and sleep soundly in anticipation of tomorrow’s hunt. We’ll even provide an extra pillow or two to smack whoever snores the loudest!
Awaken at the crack of dawn to the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee. After a couple of pastries and a cup ‘o joe or juice, you’ll head out for your morning hunt. Return to the smell of smokehouse bacon German panas, and/or home-made pan sausage. Throw in farmhouse eggs, hash browns, and Texas Toast waiting to be slathered with creamery butter and your favorite jam or jelly, and you’ve got a genuine Texas ranch-style breakfast!
Lunch is simple, seeing as how you’ll be out galivantin’ around … usually freshly made sandwiches and an assortment of sides and drinks
Pan Dulce Hunting Ranch Fire Pot, Encinal TXDinnertime is chow time. Weather permitting, we’ll all gather ’round our custom outdoor fire pits, recounting the day’s events, engaging in a friendly game of poker, or whatever fits your fancy. All this is done while juicy steaks sizzle over flame and smoke, soon to be plated and served alongside campfire favorites.
Well-managed game, crisp country mornings, ranch-style meals, stunning South Texas sunsets, and our down-home friendly atmosphere make your stay a one-of-a-kind experience.
It is our greatest desire that when you leave Pan Dulce Ranch, your thoughts will be upon planning a return visit.

My name is Mike Molter. I operate Mooar Creek Outfitters in Snyder, Texas. I grew up hunting deer and quail in South Texas with my dad. I am a life time hunter and have been guiding clients since 1989 from Sonora, Mexico to Stonewall, Colorado. I have guided hunters for Whitetail Deer in the Hill Country and the Rolling Plains of West Texas, Desert Mule Deer in both the mountains of West Texas and the desert of Sonora, Mexico, Pronghorn in the grass lands of the Land of Enchantment, and Elk in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
At Bradley 3 Ranch, our goal is to produce predictable genetics for commercial beef producers that wean the most quality pounds from cows exposed to calves weaned. Therefore, we concentrate our breeding efforts on the beef industry’s most basic traits while employing the industry’s latest technology. Fertility, easy calving, easy fleshing, soundness, high performance, muscle, and carcass value. Our experience in the meat business has helped us develop an understanding of the entire food chain, from the cow-calf producer to the consumer at the meat case. These valuable lessons are used in our ranch management decisions everyday.
The Bradley cowherd runs in some of the Texas Panhandle’s roughest country. Our rough country emphasizes the importance of an easy fleshing, moderate cow herd with good feet and sound structure. The entire ranch is grass and the cattle harvest all they consume. We do feed a liquid feed supplement to help our cattle better utilize our standing forage. Supplemental hay is only fed during extreme weather events such as a drought or winter storm. Believing in taking care of the country and the country will take care of the cows has been our philosophy for many years.
DNA markers have been obtained on every Bradley bull since 1994 and we take responsibility for every calf sired by our bulls in a multi-sired herd. We’ve collected ultrasound and carcass data since 1986, helping us develop a more predictable genetic package. Recent feedyard and carcass data revealed in a set of cattle, representing only 29% Bradley-sired calves, that six of the top 10 were sired by Bradley bulls. A recent closeout also showed a set of Bradley-sired calves averaged a premium of $95. Give us a call to discuss marketing opportunities for your Bradley-sired calves.
